An egg farm in the region of Brazil known as the Cerrado, surrounded by trees planted to protect the monogenetic hens from wind-borne disease. This tropical savanna has traditionally been quite biodiverse, but the Cerrado biome has suffered significant destruction at the hands of soy farmers clearing the terrain for cultivation. A number of large food retailers have agreed to stop using soy-fed chickens from Amazonian land that has been cleared for soy cultivation, but the Cerrado region has not gained the same protection, and the effects of destroying the native plant cover may exacerbate global warming. Lucas do Rio Verde, northern Mato Grosso State, Brazil.
