East bank of the Ganges (Ganga) River where it meets the Yamuna river on January 29th, the peak day of the Maha Kumbh Mela with an estimated 57 million participants. The central element of the festival is for pilgrims to take a sacred dip in the waters of the confluence to wash ones sins away, cleanse the soul, and have good luck for life. This Hindu festival takes place once every 12 years, and is expected to attract as over 400 million people over six weeks when Jupiter, sun and moon are in a particular allilgnment with the constellations. This is the largest gathering of humanity on the planet.
