Harvesting seaweed in the shallow passage between the islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, near Bali, Indonesia. The seaweed is harvested by hand, and then sun-dried before being shipped to a factory in Surabaya for processing and use in the food and cosmetic industries. With the drop in tourism during the COVID pandemic, many people in Bali’s hospitality industry returned to traditional jobs like cultivating seaweed, and it’s unclear how many will return.
