Hindu pilgrims come to take a sacred dip in the water at the confluence of the Ganga (Ganges) and Yamuna Rivers on the peak day of the Maha Kumbh Mela. This Hindu festival attracted 57 million two days after this picture was taken, and an estimated 400 million people over six weeks when Jupiter, sun and moon are aligned with parcticular constellations. The festival takes place once every 12 years. Two days this photo was taken, dozens (some say 100s) of pilgrims were crushed in a stampede that broke through barriers.
