Medusa (or Gorgon) heads carved in marble at the point where arches joined pillars in the forum of Leptis Magna.
Leptis Magna was the largest Roman city in western Libya and the hometown of Roman emperor Septimus Severus. The ruins feature a well-preserved theater, market square, forum with attached basilica, heated baths, and a large ocean port. Just to the east along the coast is a large amphitheater and hippodrome.
