East Golmud Solar Park, one of the fastest-growing solar fields in China. The East Golmud solar development started in 2009 and has been built by many different companies. There are five solar parks planned in Golmud area, aiming to make Golmud China’s largest photovoltaic base. Golmud East is currently the largest, and plans are for it to cover 120 sq km by 2030 and generate 1 giga-watt of electricity. The east and south Golmud solar parks have China’s largest concentration of PV stations. Golmud is located on the north side of the Tibetan Plateau, at an elevation of 9,200 ft., and the East Golmud Solar Park is raked by strong winds and punctuated by mobile crescent-shaped barchan dunes.
This 21 MW solar array has panels that track the sun, and was being being managed by QingHai Suncore Energy Co. Ltd.
