Harvesting strawberries for Driscoll's near Watsonville, CA. Driscoll's has approximately 20% of the strawberries in the USA. Driscoll's sells the strawberry seedlings to independent growers who then pick and field-pack strawberries for inspection, sale, and trans-shipment by Driscoll's. They have berry operations in Europe, South America, and Asia as well. Workers here get paid a base of $5.50/hr + $1.40 crate for domestic and $1.70 for foreign shipment, minimum $10.50/hr. some $16-17/hr. Growing season here in Watsonville is from 1 April to 1 November. Each plant is harvested 2xweek, and they get 73,000 lbs of strawberries per acre/season.
