Cirio cacti in the Cataviñia Boulder field. This small area along the Trans-peninsular highway is one of the most beautiful in Baja. Here, the plant life transitions from Sonoran to Californian species found along the coastal regions of Baja Norte (at about 30 degrees N. Latitude). The boulders are weathered granite bedrock. The area has been designated a “biosphere reserve” by the U.N.
