Fish meal factories line the beach in Chimbote harbor, the biggest port for Peru's fishing industry at the start of the lucrative anchovy season. The Peruvian anchoveta is the world's largest fishery by weight. It is primarily harvested for fish meal and oil, which are critical components of feed for aquaculture, pig, and chicken farms throughout the world.
The factory in the foreground is CopeInca, formerly owned by China Fisheries Group but now for sale in bankruptcy proceedings. They have the largest fishing quota of any company operating in Peruvian waters.
