Jebel Ali power and desalination plant supplies Dubai with both electricity and fresh water. The power plant extends over four kilometers along the coast of the Persian Gulf between the port of Jebel Ali and the Jumeirah district.
The facility provides for most of Dubai's energy and water needs. With an installed capacity of 8.6 gigawatts, it is the world's largest gas-fired power plant and the world's largest seawater desalination plant, providing 590 million gallons of fresh water per day.
The primary fuel used is natural gas, with some fuel imported via pipelines from neighboring emirates, Iran and Qatar.
90% of Dubai’s potable water comes from desalination plants, which account for around 14% of the world's total production of desalinated water.
