Former world-record pilot Franz Schilter testing new extra-large paraglider for use by George Steinmetz during high-altitude take-offs from the salt flat of the Salar de Uyuni, elevation 3653m.
The Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flat in the world, covering some 10,500 sq. km. and containing over 10 billion tons of salt. It was formed by evaporating runoff that became trapped between two branches of the Andes without any outlet to the sea.
