A couple of wealthy young Shanghainese on a date take in afternoon tea and the view of The Bund in Shanghai. They are sampling a birdcage of cakes costing about $100, or a little less than a factory worker's weekly salary, plus a plate of fruit, and iced coffee. Chinese tastes in food are changing towards more exotic and imported foods, especially in the larger cities.
