Village along the west bank of the Nile across the river from Aswan, built in the ancient style of Nubian architecture with arched and domed roofs made of un-fired mud bricks. This keeps the homes here relatively cool during the hot summer months. The village is located on the high ground, both preserving agricultural land along the river and maintaining the homes above what was once the flood level of the Nile. Now many of the residents supplement their income by holding jobs in the tourism industry which dominates commercial life in nearby Aswan.
