Gathering eggs from mobile chicken houses on an organic Amish family farm. The coops are moved daily to provide fresh pasture for the birds. The feed is all non-GMO organic grain, and the mobile coops cost approximately $30,000 and include a solar panel to power the automatic feeding system. The eggs retail for about $9/dozen and require significantly more land and supplemental food than conventional caged eggs costing $2/dozen. Amish farming methods are a hybrid of 19th Century animal-powered techniques and a few modern inputs.
