Amhara, Ethiopia
Harvesting teff by hand scythe at 8,000 ft. on the Amhara Plateau. Teff is believed to be the first domesticated grain and is still the staple food for some 100 million small-scale farmers in Ethiopia and Eritrea. The seeds are very small, like a grain of sand, and extremely drought tolerant, making them well suited for an increasingly variable climate.
