A rugby party after a rugby game between two chapters of the Maori Black Power gang. The gang name was borrowed from the Black Power movement in the US in the late 1960s and is seen by its members as a symbol of the resurgent Maori power struggle against discrimination. It’s not a motorcycle gang, but serves the purpose of binding Maori together into a social fabric, to replace what was lost through cultural erosion.
