50knot+ katabatic winds coming off of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet via Vortex Glacier, just to the south of Airdevron6 Ice Falls. These winds have been measured at up to 160 knots, perhaps the strongest in the world, and can move stones larger than a golf ball. Here writer Lars Abromeit is seen on his way back from Wright Valley to a field camp in the Olympus Range.
