Opening day of an art and cultural festival in the Asmat region of Irian Jaya, which brought villagers in traditional attire to Agats from villages throughout the surrounding estuary. They were paid 300,000 (US$150) Indonesian rupiah per village to come to the festival by a foundation funded by the Freeport Mine.
