Trift Bridge crosses a valley that was filled with 30m of ice just twenty years ago, making the glacier one of the fastest retreating ice fields in the Alps. The chasm is now crossed by the longest (170m) pedestrian-only suspension bridge in the Swiss Alps, built in 2009. Behind it is what's now called the Triftsee. The bridge has become a significant tourist attraction, drawing over 20,000 visitors per year, who have to take a gondola and then hike 1-2 hours to reach the span.
