Planting red and green lettuce to be grown hydroponically in the research greenhouse of Agrotopia, a provincial government-supported bridge between universities and commercial farmers. The lettuce seedlings are placed in small cubes of soil on trays placed over a temperature-controlled stream of nutrients. The tray spacing slowly increases over time to maximize the use of greenhouse space as the plants grow. The water is recycled, and the heat comes from a nearby waste incinerator. The lettuce is sold at auction for public consumption. The plants grow faster and need less pest control, but they still have problems with caterpillars and lice. The production is local, but not organic.

Seedling to full size is 4-5 weeks in summer, 7-8 weeks in winter with supplemental LED blue 5% and red 95% lighting in winter.
