Processing carrots at Grimmway Farms, which supplies approximately half of the carrots consumed in the U.S. Based in Bakersfield, Grimmway grows long skinny carrots that can easily be cut into pieces about 7-9 cm. long and about 2 cm. wide. The carrot pieces are then skinned and packaged, ready to eat raw or cooked, which is now the dominant way that carrots are sold in the U.S. market. They grow both organic and conventional carrots, but their organic fields require twice the water to grow non-food crops between carrot seasons.
