Facebook's new headquarters is sandwiched between the Bayfront Expressway and the abandoned rail line on the edge of East Palo Alto. The building was designed by Frank Gehry with a huge rooftop park, which is being expanded northward and features a half-mile walking trail, a coffee stand and over 400 trees. Not everyone who works or lives in Silicon Valley is getting rich, like the residents of East Palo Alto. But even this area has seen a changing demographic, with many of the poor black residents being replaced by Latinos. The area is on the lowest elevation of the peninsula, near the mudflats of San Francisco Bay, and bordered by railroad tracks, and industrial facilities.
