Russian family from Moscow taking souvenir photos on salt accretions beside a dike in the Dead Sea Works salt evaporation ponds. These ponds deposit an average of 20cm. of edible salt (NaCl) per year, which is slowly raising the ground level as it has no economic value. The NaCl must be extracted (precipitated) before the more valuable potash, magnesium and bromides can be extracted in evaporation pans further south. This particular dike is located adjacent to the tourist beach resorts at Ein Bokek, and gets visited by the occasional tourists.
