Legs of photographer George Steinmetz dangle from the harness of his motorized paraglider as he tries to gain over 5,600 feet while photographing an extinct volcano in the Sahara. Arakaou, is the name given by the Tuareg to this 10 km wide sunken volcano on the western edge of the Ténéré Desert in Niger. It’s filled by sand that blows into a breach in its eastern wall, and their swirling motion forms the 120m tall dunes at its center.
