Aymara women clearing eucalyptus droppings and weeds from the putting greens of La Paz Golf Club. This is the highest golf course in the world, with 18 holes of grass, el 3,342m. The women earn about $100/month, dues for members are $70, with memberships costing $12,000. The Golf Club has no Indian/indigenous members, and applicants need to be nominated by two members, have their application (with photo) posted in the club, and any single member can block an applicant. The worlds of indigenous and white Bolivians are largely separate, with indigenous people having very little opportunity to improve their economic situation.
