Artisanal fishing boats bring in a mixture of fish caught in nearshore waters. On this day it was blue sharks, large squid, and bonito for local consumption. The world’s largest fishery by tonnage is the Peruvian anchoveta, which is caught in deeper water and rendered for export as fish meal and fish oil.
