Wijdemeren, a former peat bog, was harvested to the point that it became a lake separated by long peninsulas. The narrow peninsulas and islets are now used as isolated sites for vacation homes.
This photograph is part of a project that examines the global impact of rising sea levels, and the ways different countries and communities are engineering solutions to this growing problem.
