Quirimba Archipelago, Mozambique
The wives of local fishermen work the shallow waters surrounding Quero Niuni, their home on a speck of sand less than a hundred meters wide in the Indian Ocean. Quero Niuni has no freshwater but provides access to one of the last reefs in the Quirimbas with large fish. While the men are out working the outer reefs, the women work the nearshore waters, with nets so fine that they take all but the smallest fish.
