Grain-loading facilities at the largest commercial port in Brazil have not been able to keep up with expanding production from the Amazon Basin. Here an excavator digs through a small mountain of soybeans to open a blocked conveyor in the warehouse floor, which loads them onto bulk carriers departing for China. Brazil recently eclipsed the U.S. as the world’s biggest exporter of soybeans.
