Main camp for mustering 2,400 Brahmin heifers with motorbikes, helicopters, and horses at Bunda Cattle Station, NT, Australia, 180km from the nearest paved road. The heifers have been left with bulls in one of the large paddocks for many months, and are being brought in for each to get an ultrasound pregnancy test to see which are pregnant and how far along they are. The non-pregnant heifers will be sent out for six months to breed. This station is being used for propagating breeding stock to be transferred to the Consolidated Pastoral Company’s other stations, with improved genetics of their cattle. Bunda Station is 408K hectares (1,575 sq miles) or, with 29k breeding head. 3:100 is bull:heifer ratio. Most of the progeny of this farm are for the live export market, primarily Indonesia.
The cattle are owned by CPC (Consolidated Pastoral Co.) which has 3.6 million hectares of grazing land scattered across Northern Australia, and two feedlots in Indonesia.
