Baja California, Mexico
Less than 10% of the fresh water in the Colorado River crosses the border to Mexico, and most of that is also used for irrigating farmland. Upstream agriculture has turned what was once one of North America’s largest and most biodiverse river deltas into a vast sand desert that is raked by 10m tides during full moons as when this picture was taken.
