Riesling grapes cover the steep slopes below Marienburg, Germany, on a sharp bend in the Mosel River. This former castle and Augustine monastery has buildings dating back to the 12th Century. The area was first planted with grapes by the Romans, and wine-making continues to dominate these lands today, in a rare example of European monoculture.
