Waterloo Cattle Station, NT, Australia, 25 August 2022. Lucy (9) and Stirling (7) Brett wear their school uniforms to online classes in a classroom set up for them at Waterloo Cattle Station. Their governess, Rosie Stephenson, guides their instruction and daily activities while their mother runs the station office and manages the day-to-day activities of some twenty station employees. The nearest town is a two-hour drive away on a dirt road, so part of the schooling is via “School of the Air”, a program with online courses designed for children living in the remote parts of the Australian Outback. They have sports and other activities once a week when their mother takes them to town to pick up groceries and other supplies for the cattle camp. Waterloo Cattle Station covers some 189K hectares and was established here in the mid-1880s.
