Tigrean and Afari men having dinner at an open-air restaurant in Ahmed Ela after a day of gathering blocks of salt from Lake Assale. Their simple meal consists of locally baked bread flavored with fried onions and beans seasoned in tomato sauce and hot peppers. Most of these men have traveled from the Ethiopian highlands without their families while driving camels and donkeys to carry salt.
