Blood testing male goats and blackface sheep for rift valley fever, brucella, and foot and mouth disease at Berbera United Quarantine, Berbera, Somaliland. All of the livestock that is exported live from here to Saudi Arabia and the Arabian Gulf countries is supposed to be tested prior to loading on ships. Animals average a week in quarantine in Berbera before being exported live to Saudi Arabia where 2.6 million animals are ritually sacrificed on the third day of the Hajj pilgrimage. According to Islamic law, most of the meat is used to feed the poor. Each animal is supposed to get a physical exam and ear tag before having blood tested for brucellosis, Rift Valley fever, and food and mouth disease.
