More than 2,000 fishing boats preparing to depart Shipu Harbor, near Ningbo, at the start of the fall fishing season. Over the past years, the season has been getting shorter as the government attempts to protect declining fish populations. Many boatmen complained that their catches were declining, and it was getting harder to make a living from the sea. They also noted that the mesh on their nets has been getting finer, and they now take the smaller fish along with the large ones.
