Dinka people in the village of Nyiek get little benefit from the production of oil from under their traditional lands. The village was re-established at this site (just north of Paloich in Upper Nile province) six years ago after the peace agreement (CPA) was signed. Their village was always beside the road, but had to be moved as the oil company Petrodar damaged the local environment by excavating the high ground. Now Nyeik is surrounded by a road, power lines, and the week I was here, the arrival of a drilling rig operated by Great Wall Drilling Company for Petrodar. The village has their water delivered every three days by Petrodar's water tanker truck, but have no electricity. They are demanding more water and bigger tanks to hold it.
