Artisanal fishing boats offloading their catch on the beach of Kayar in the early morning. The large purse-seining pirogues were fishing at night to take advantage of the illumination that pelagic fish make in the water, making them easier to find.
The small pelagic fishery has been migrating northward some 5° (300NM) every 10 years for the past few decades due to changing sea temperatures, and increased fishing pressure.
