Colonel Jon Greer (center) of US Army, running the Operations Command Center of Cheyenne Mountain near Colorado Springs, Colorado. Built during the Cold War with the Soviet Union, Cheyenne Mountain serves as the command center for both NORAD and USNORTHCOM. It is the central collection and coordination center for a worldwide system of satellites, radar, and other early warning systems watching for threats to North American security from both aircraft and ballistic missiles. It is housed 600 meters underground, with 23-ton blast doors aligned perpendicular to the 1.5 km long entry tunnel so it can withstand a nuclear attack.
