Mato Grosso, Brazil
The last day for aging hens at the largest egg farm in Latin America, Granja Mantiqueira. They have had about 95 weeks of productivity and are now being shipped 1,300 km to a slaughterhouse near São Paulo.
Granja Mantiqueira has 4 million hens that produce 2.7 million eggs a day without the birds or eggs ever touching a human hand. Here the conveyor system converges on the sorting, cleaning, and packaging building. The plant is located in a rural part of Mato Grosso where there is an abundant supply of cheap cornmeal for chicken feed.
