Aerial view of Weston, a suburb of Broward County that was built right up against the Everglades. Known locally as Westonzuela, as most of the homes are occupied by Venezuelan immigrants. The community is separated from the Everglades by a levy and canal to take away excess water, and the homes were built on sand that was excavated from the swamp. Most of the swimming pools here are permanently covered with mosquito nets to keep out insects.
