To handle the influx of a peak one-day attendance of up to 60 million pilgrims, the Prayagraj Mela Authority created a tent city on the sand bars of the Ganges (Ganga) and Yamuna Rivers, complete with metal roads, pontoon bridges, latrines, tents, piped water, moblie phone service, and electricty.
Hindu pilgrims come to dip in the water at the confluence of the Ganga (Ganges) and Yamuna Rivers for the Maha Kumbh Mela. This Hindu festival is expected to attract as many as 400 million people over six weeks when Jupiter, sun and moon are aligned with the certain constellations. The six-week feastival that happens once every 12 years. It is the largest gathering of humanity on the planet.
