Hindu pilgrims seek out blessings from sadhus (holymen) like Savan Bharati Ji, seen here in tent city of the Maha Kumbh Mela. A small donation (typically less than a 100 rupees) is given, and the supplicant receives a tap on the head with peacock feathers, and ashes from the gurus fire to be placed on their forehead. Hindu pilgrims come to the Maha Kumbh Mela to dip in the water at the confluence of the Ganga (Ganges) and Yamuna Rivers. This Hindu festival attracts an estimated 400 million people over six weeks when Jupiter, the sun, and the moon are aligned with certain constellations.
