A branch of the Upper Taylor Glacier pushed glacier ice uphill into Kennar Valley, where it ends in a tongue-like lobe against ground patterned by permafrost. Most of the glaciers in the Dry Valley area are dry-based glaciers, and their base is frozen to the underlying rock. Thus they flow much more slowly and plastically than wet-based glaciers in the rest of the world. For this reason, dry-bottom glaciers cause very little erosion and behave like cold honey pouring over (or here up) the landscape.
