Incamar 2, a Chinese-owned Peruvian purse seiner, hauling in a catch of anchoveta.
The Peruvian anchoveta, the world's largest fish by weight, is mainly used as feed for aquaculture farms. Almost all of Peru’s fishmeal production is for the Asian market, including 80% to China, mostly for aquaculture and baby pig food. About 50% of the fish oil goes to Europe, primarily Norway and Denmark for salmon farms.
