Processing 2,400 Brahmin heifers at Bunda Cattle Station in a remote part of the Northern Territory, 180 km from the nearest town or paved road. The heifers have been left with bulls (3:100 ratio) in one of the large paddocks for many months and were brought in to get an ultrasound pregnancy test to see which ones are pregnant and how far along they are. They are also inoculated with Vibrovax against bovine venereal disease. The non-pregnant heifers will be evaluated to determine if they are fertile and need to be mated, or are infertile, and need to be sold for export and slaughter. This station is being used for breeding the finest stock to be transferred to the Consolidated Pastoral Company’s other stations to improve the genetics of their cattle.
