Scientists, technicians, and managers of the US Antarctic Program all share the cargo bay of a US Air Force C17 on its way from Christ Church, New Zealand to the US base at McMurdo Station. This was the first flight of the spring season, the start of bringing up the headcount at McMurdo from a few hundred to some 1700 people for the austral spring scientific season.
