Barilla's main pasta sauce factory in Rubbiano, near Parma, will become the world's largest after the expansion to be completed summer 2018.
Here, employees make "pesto calabrese" in 1100kg tanks with ingredients waiting to be mixed and cooked. In the large wheeled bins are the fresh ingredients: red pepper, onions, chili pepper, salt, sugar, grana padano cheese, ricotta cheese, and pecorino cheese.
