Views of Lower Erebus Hut camp during the second day of a blizzard with gusts up to 80kph and temps of -31°C. Scientists sleep in tents and have two small warmed huts for eating and doing lab work. The LEH camp is located at 3,400M and in an average summer season only half the days have weather suitable for working outdoors. With the effect of the earth spinning, the atmosphere is thicker over the equator than over the poles, and the effective equatorial altitude of LEH is approximately 4,000M.
