Crews of islanders from Benguerra fish the shallows between Benguerra and Bazaruto at low tide. They use wooden dhows and long narrow nets that they pull by hand in communal teams. The low spring tides only last a couple of hours, and the strong ebb and flow of the tides let them net fish effectively by hand. The difference between high and low here is over 5 meters.
